Indonesian star Alwi Farhan exited the All-England quarter-finals after a straight game defeat, but his torn shoe became a major talking point on Friday.
Farhan lost 17-21, 12-21 against Kunlavut Vitidsarn, but the 20-year-old may be feeling he could have given the Thai ace a competitive match in the second game if not for his faulty footwear.

The incident occured at the start of the game when Farhan discovered his left Yonex shoe was torn just below his toe.
The shuttler immediately notified the umpire and his coach Indra Wijaya, who then asked the tournament official for some time to find a replacement pair.
Unfortunately for Farhan, who did not have an extra pair with him, the shuttler had to continue playing as Wijaya spoke to the official about getting a replacement.
Playing with the exposed shoe clearly affected Farhan, who ended up trailing 6-11 at the interval and kept looking at his foot after each rally.
The Indonesia Masters champion finally got his replacement shoes at the interval from the official who rushed over with the pair.
But the new shoes ultimately failed to spark a revival against his world number two opponent, who was a class above and duly wrapped up the deserved 61-minute victory.
This will prove a lesson for Farhan and every shuttler in general, to always keep a spare pair of shoes with them in the unique case it needs to replaced mid-match.
