Goh Jin Wei injected life into the Malaysia Open singles’ campaign with a win on a day which the men’s interest ended after Ng Tze Yong withdrew injured, and she later testified to pushing herself beyond her limit.
Goh did enough to secure progression to the second round after she overcame Chinese Taipei’s Sung Shuo-yun 21-18, 21-11 after 40-minutes.
The world number 31 later clarified she has changed medication in her latest attempt to maximize her training intensity.
“At this stage, I am really trying my best to go beyond the limit. Even though I have cramps, I still go for training. My training for the last month during the off-season has been mostly concentrated on my physical condition even though I feel it’s not enough.
“I am up against Gregoria tomorrow and I am looking forward to it,” Goh said.
The 23-year-old, who has struggled with stomach ailments in the past, will face Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in what is expected to be an interesting match-up.
Malaysia are guaranteed a spot in the men’s doubles quarter-finals after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin both won their matches to face each other on Thursday.
Chia-Soh came from a game down to beat Danish pair Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard 20-22, 21-13, 21-13, while Goh-Izzuddin overcame their Thai opponents in straight games 21-17, 22-20.

Chen-Toh who overcame Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue 21-17, 21-18, will be up against either an American or Japanese pair.

Ng meanwhile had to retire with a back injury just 13-minutes into his match against Koki Watanabe.
There are also no Malaysian representatives in the women's doubles after Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing, Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien and Go Pei Kee-Low Yeen Yuan all exited.
