Tze Yong leaves BAM

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and national men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong have mutually decided to part ways.

“After in-depth discussions, both parties agreed that this is the best path forward at this stage of his career. 

"On behalf of BAM, I would like to thank Tze Yong for his contributions to Malaysian badminton and wish him good health and continued success in his future endeavours," said BAM president Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz in a statement.

According to BAM, the decision was reached following discussions between both parties. 

The national body and Ng both agreed it would be in the best interest of the player to move on and chart his path as a professional shuttler.

Ng’s career had been derailed by two severe injuries in the last two years.

First it was a back injury in 2024 that kept him out for over a year.

When Ng did return to action last year, he suffered another blow after tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) at the Malaysia Masters.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery in Qatar a few weeks after his injury and has been in rehabilitation ever since.

Ng has now followed in the path of Lee Zii Jia to leave the national association and chart his career as a professional shuttler.

Among the highlights of his career include winning the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and reaching the Arctic Open final the following year.

The Johor-born also reached a career high-rank of 14 in 2023.
