Professional women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei proved that perseverance is key to success after she ended a nine-year drought for a senior title after winning the Singapore International on Sunday.

“It’s been a long time, champion after eight years. Never give up because anything is possible. What if there is a miracle? The road ahead, keep going,” posted Goh on her social media account.

On Sunday, the 26-year-old comprehensively outclassed Indonesia’s Komang Ayu 21-11, 21-11 for her first senior silverware since she last claimed gold at the 2017 SEA Games.

Goh last tasted victory back in 2018 when she won gold at the World Junior Championships and Youth Olympic Games.

This marks Goh’s second final appearance of the year, having also reached the Thailand Masters final in January.

In that match, the Penang-born conceded a walkover in the second game due to exhaustion.

Goh’s run in Singapore saw her win all her matches in straight games.

Her good form also bodes well for the Uber Cup contingent in April.

Just last week, Goh confirmed her inclusion into the national contingent for the upcoming tournament in April.

Based on her current ranking, Goh will be fielded as the second singles.

The draw for the Thomas & Uber Cup will take place on March 18.
