Registrations for Lee Chong Wei Cup opens June 15

The much awaited Lee Chong Wei Cup (LCWC) will take place from August 29-September 6 at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara, with registrations for entries set to open on June 15 (12pm).

This age-group junior competition is organized for the first time by Lee, who has never owned any badminton event despite being the country's most successful shuttler.

The LCWC will have 128 entries available for each category, with 32 slots reserved for pre-selected players from their respective states.

Another 32 players will be kept in a standby shortlist and they will be called up by the organizers should there be any pull-outs from the initial 128 players.

The LCWC will also also use the new 3x15 scoring system that will officially be introduced at the BWF World Tour next season.

Registration fees for the LCWC are RM50 for singles and RM100 for doubles, and all the money will go to a charity that will be revealed in the future.

Despite the modest entry fee, the LCWC is offering a total prize purse of RM100,000 which is among the most lucrative for a youth competition in the country.

The LCWC will see participation from the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17.

The U13 and U15 will compete in the Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles and Girls Doubles, while the U17 will comprise of Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
