Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei gave Malaysia an unforgettable Merdeka Day gift after the national mixed doubles pair crushed their Chinese opponents in straight games to be crowned world champions.
Chen-Toh's success completed an amazing turnaround after they were temporarily split in March this year after reportedly falling out with each other.
The pair continued to show progress in their partnership as they went on to win the Australian Open in November.
Aaron-Wooi Yik become Asian Champions
Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik claimed one of their biggest career successes when they excelled at the Badminton Asia Championships in April to win their biggest silverware of the year.
The national men’s doubles pair were so impressive throughout the prestigious event they had not dropped a single game en route to victory, including a one-sided triumph in the final when they easily ousted Chinese pair Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi.
Chia-Soh’s first title win of 2025 paved the way for more glory, as they went on to win the Thailand Open and Singapore Open titles soon after.
Pearly-Thinaah end a decade long drought at SEA Games
This list would not be complete without the heroics of Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah, who delivered the SEA Games gold medal on their debut at the multi-sports Games.
Despite going into this event as heavy favourites to win, the national women’s pair were made to work hard before they overcame Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji-Meilysa Trias in three grueling games.
Winning gold capped a magnificent year for the world number two pair, who also won the Thailand Open, Arctic Open and Japan Masters titles.
Besides that, Tan-Thinaah also finished second at the World Championships, Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open and Japan Open.
