FC Midtjylland announced on Friday they reached an agreement with Dion Cools to cancel his contract with the Danish club.
The Malaysia international, who made 53 appearances for the club, joined them from Club Brugge in January 2020, going on to win the Danish Superliga that season.
However, his playing time became limited in the 2021-22 season, which saw him go out on loan at Zulte Waregem in Belgium.
After helping Malaysia to qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, he returned to Denmark but the writing was on the wall regarding his future when he was not included in their UEFA Europa League squad.
Prior to his release, Cools was strongly linked with a move to Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT)..
FC Midtjylland og Dion Cools er blevet enige om at ophæve aftalen, således den 26-årige back er fri til at finde sig en ny klub.
