The Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will be returning to Malaysia as the country has been named the host of the 2027 edition.

The news was confirmed by Astro Arena correspondent Akbar Sahari following a South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) meeting ahead of the 2021 SEA Games opening ceremony in Vietnam, where the current edition is taking place, on Thursday.

Brunei Darussalam was originally touted as the host country for the 34th edition before officially withdrawing last December without any official reason.

As a result, it would be Malaysia's seventh time hosting the multi-sport event, with the most recent one coming in 2017.

As for other editions, Cambodia would be hosting in 2023, Thailand in 2025 and, as announced today as well, Singapore replaced Laos for 2029.
