Malaysia failed to qualify for the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa, after being beaten by Singapore in the Asian Netball Championship (ANC) on Saturday .

Lisa Beehag's team, featuring the likes of Netball Super League MVP Nordiyanah Noor Sabadinee and Johor Jewels goal-scorer An Najwa Azizan, lost 41-54 in the semi-final encounter against the hosts.

It was also déjà vu for the Malaysian ladies as they lost to Singapore on the same stage in the previous tournament, hence missing out on the World Cup.

The win secured Singapore's World Cup qualification and their spot in Sunday's ANC final, where they take on five-time Asian champions Sri Lanka.

Malaysia last qualified for the biggest netball tournament in 2011, which saw them finish last among 16 teams.

They now face Hong Kong in a rematch of the 2018 third-place match, which Malaysia won.
