Fresh from winning the mixed team event, most of Malaysian players began their individual campaign on Thursday as they received byes into the Round of 32.

Only Lai Pei Jing and Cheah Yee See were in action yesterday, with the women's doubles scratch pair easily dispatching of Sabrina Charllene Scott-Tamisha Janelle Williams of Barbados 21-5, 21-6.

Lai resumed her regular mixed doubles duty today as she and partner Tan Kian Meng defeated Mauritius pair Tejraj Pultoo-Ganesha Mungrah 21-5, 21-8.

Similarly, Cheah paired up with Chan Peng Soon to overcome Singapore's Andy Kwek-Jin Yujia 21-8, 21-13.

In the singles department, Ng Tze Yong extended his personal winning run in Birmingham to seven by beating Pakistani player Irfan Bahtti 21-10 21-9.

The Malaysian contingent's most impressive win of the day was without a doubt by Goh Jin Wei in her women's singles match against Ghana's Cindy Tornyenyor.

The 22-year-old allowed her opponent to take just four points off her over two games as she won 21-3, 21-1.

At the time of writing, only the fate of the scratch men's double pairing of Chan and Tan is not determined yet as they face Mauritius' Aatish Lubah-Julien Georges Paul later on the same day.
