In partnership with Astro Arena and Malaysian Volleyball Association (MAVA), sooka will be launching the inaugural sooka Super Series Volleyball (SSSVB 2022) season at Dewan Besar Tanjung in Seksyen 19, Shah Alam, this Friday.
Scheduled to take place from October 14 to November 6, the first edition features seven local teams, namely SAC Selangor Lion, Melaka Mousedeer, Kuala Lumpur Shark, Sarawak Hornbill, ATM Gladiator, Sabah Rhino and Johor Tiger, and an international side, Amelia Indonesia.
Emarina Kamal, Head of Programming of sooka Malaysia, hailed the fomation of the professional volleyball league to grow the sport in the country.
"SSSVB 2022 is the start of the sooka Super Series, which we have created to be a continuous platform for local players to showcase their talents and reach a higher level.
"We see this sport as having a great potential that needs to be highlighted, and sooka will present the league in its own way that is unique, fresh and full of entertainment.
"Through SSSVB 2022 as well, we want to continue our effort to provide the best sports content for sports fans, as well as invite young millennials to be more interested in empowering local sports trends," she said.
MAVA president Hean Boon Yeow described SSSVB 2022 as the starting point and the best platform to see the sport flourish and be highly competitive at the international level.
"The inclusion of Amelia Indonesia will definitely give a strong challenge to the local teams [and] there are also teams with foreign players including from the USA, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka, which will heat up the competition.
"This collaboration with sooka is only the beginning to have a prestigious league that has already managed to attract participation from overseas. Certainly improvements will be made from time to time to promote SSSVB to the international level one day," he said.
Fans can catch the games at the venue by purchasing match tickets at TicketHotline starting from October 12, or watch it live via the sooka app (Google Play/App Store).
